As of 1 April 2023, the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) regulations in England and Wales have been updated to prohibit landlords from continuing to let non-domestic properties with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating below 'E' (i.e., ratings of 'F' or 'G'), unless a valid exemption has been registered. This change extends the previous restriction, which since 1 April 2018 applied only to new leases and lease renewals, to encompass all existing leases as well.
